A. Iowa City permits homeowners to post 'For Sale by Owner' signs on their property as long
as the signs meet the city's size limitation. fsbo-iowa.com's yard signs comply with the city's
regulation. Directional and open house signs are technically not permitted on public property.
I've been told that the city relaxes this policy during weekends, to allow homeowners to
advertise their homes for sale. However, on Monday it's possible that city workers may pick
up signs that are posted on public property.

Q. How can I get information about my property such as the year built, square footage, and lot
size?
A. This information is available at your local city or county assessor's office. Iowa City property owners can access information about their property online at the Iowa City Assessor Website. Search for your property using their 'Parcel Search' feature. *Tip: Sometimes if you enter your 'House No.' and street name, the search won't display any results. Try entering just your 'House No.', and choose your property from the list that's displayed.
Q. How can I find out whether a room in my house can be considered a bedroom?
A. You can call your local Housing and Inspection Services office. In Iowa City the number is
319-356-5130. You can also look up information online at Iowa City Housing and Inpection
